An Exciting Encounter On Our Inland, Island Safari...

As promised, here are more pictures from Island Dog's "inland safari" earlier this month...

What was Island Dog so anxiously tracking when last we met?

Why, it's an endangered gopher tortoise--crossing a sunny, open area--and moving surprisingly fast!

Pattie wasn't comfortably trying to set-up a "money shot" of Finnegan sniffing the docile creature.  As she quickly pulled our excited Island Dog away, I was able to get close enough for a portrait shot as Island Dog's new friend moved-off into the shade...
That was exciting!  Even in fall, late morning temperatures here in Florida approach 80 degrees--and we don't want to overdo it.

But it is still comfortable in the shade.  Here is a picture of Pattie and our Island Dog as they navigate the shady trail on the way back to the van...
With at least a mile to go, Pattie pauses to share a drink of cool water she has been carrying in a canteen...
The last part of our "inland safari" was scenic, yet uneventful.  But meeting the gopher tortoise had made our day!  Time to head home and relax by the pool.

What a spoiled dog!  A big breakfast, followed by a hike along dark and mysterious inland trails--then back home to relax poolside. Just another  reminder that

Life is always great on the island!
